OnBase by Hyland is an enterprise content management platform with business process and case management capabilities. It is modular by design and allows users to tailor the solution to their specific requirements.

Oracle WebCenter Content is Oracle's ECM Suite. This product is tightly integrated to other Oracle products and provides ECM functionality to Siebel CRM and PeopleSoft.  The WebCenter product family also includes Oracle's CMS (WebCenter Sites) which they acquired from FatWire.

Laserfiche has two main editions: Rio and Avante: Laserfiche Rio is designed to meet the needs of large organizations that have more than 100 users. It combines content management functionality with business process management (BPM), security and auditing, unlimited servers and a thin-client interface. Add-ons include  records management functionality, public Web portals and production-level document capture and processing.
Laserfiche Avante is an ECM suite for small to medium organizations with fewer than 100 users. It combines content management with workflow tools that automate business processes. Built on the Microsoft platform, Laserfiche Avante allows users to drag and drop e-mails from Outlook® into Laserfiche.

OpenText Content Manager (formerly Micro Focus Content Manager, and earlier HP Records Manager) is an electronic document and records management system (EDRMS) based on technology from Hewlett-Packard's 2008 acquisition of TOWER Software. Content Manager is an enterprise document and records management system for physical and electronic information designed to help businesses capture, manage, and secure business information in order to meet governance and regulatory compliance obligations.

Enterprise content management (ECM) is a set of tools and methods that allows a corporation, agency or organization to obtain, organize, store and deliver information crucial to its operation. The fundamental objectives of ECM are to streamline access, eliminate bottlenecks, optimize security, maintain integrity and minimize overhead.

According to the Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM), ECM can be broken down into five major components called capture, manage, store, preserve and deliver. The purpose of each component can be briefly defined as follows:

-Capture: Create, obtain and organize information.
-Manage: Process, modify and employ information.
-Store: Temporarily back up frequently changing information in the short term.
-Preserve: Back up infrequently changing information in the medium and long term.
-Deliver: Provide clients and end users with requested information.
